Social networking

Well, I've been Facebooking, Twittering, LinkedIn'ing and goodness knows what elsing! Twitter I like because I can follow organisations, such as SLQ to keep up with what's on. LinkedIn is a good professional networking tool and Facebook, well......

Immediately joining Facebook, I made contact with some people I had missed. However, I was also inundated with a whole lot of people I didn't want to become "friends" with. Two edged sword!

lesson 4 Social Networks

Hmmm. Call me old fashioned, but I still like my socialising to be face to face. Having spent most of my life in Brisbane, I really don't know people outside of my immediate environment.

Nevertheless, I am now a Facebook entity.

Lesson 3 - wikis

I started using SLiQipedia early this year as part of my communication plan for various projects I was working on. I found it extremely easy to use, in fact it's better than Microsoft Word when it comes to tabs and indents :-).

Hyperlinks (either to web sites or networkfiles) are NOT fun however.

Library Success: A best practices wiki This was a good wiki, I have bookmarked it as a good source of professional information as is the LIS Wiki and futurelib.

Personally, I would use a wiki more than a blog. A wiki is more interactive and well, that's what Web 2.0 is really about, interaction - social, professional, technological.

Flickr

Lisa Miller helped some folks in RD with Flickr. It was great. Thanks Lisa, you managed to de-mystify Flickr for the newbies :-)

We have an RD Licence to Test Drive session each Monday afternoon for half an hour. This is a shared learning time - we bounce ideas around and learn frome each other.

#2

OK - created my Flickr account a while ago, but only just got around to uploadng some photos. Very easy to upload. However, I need to explore all the other options and am a little scared of sharing :-(

Anyone at SLQ want to share with me? Then I can dip my toes in the water.....

Welcome

Hi to all my fellow License to Test drive participants. I hope you enjoy this learning experience. I did the 23 Things (the program this is based one) when I was at Southbank Institute and found it very good fun and a great way to try new Web 2.0 things. It takes hardly anytime, but make sure you give yourself that little bit every week to do each task - and I must remember to take my own advise :-)
